From the Legal Blog Watch: Can a lawyer’s blogging about his own case constitute sanctionable conduct? That is the argument being made by the Recording Industry Association of America in asking a federal court in New York to impose sanctions on lawyer Ray Beckerman, in part due to his postings on his blog, Recording Industry vs The People.

The website TechDirt.com has written a short article entitled: “Lawyer Seriously Slapped Down For SLAPP Attempt Against Librarian Blogger”, where a lawyer filed a lawsuit against a blogger for stating information about the connection between autism and mercury. The judge in this case, however, found the lawyer’s case “violated Fed. R. Civ. P. 11(b)(1) and Rule 45(c)(1)violated Fed. R. Civ. P. 11(b)(1) and Rule 45(c)(1)”. U.S. Lawyer Arrested Over Blog Post

A U.S. lawyer was arrested Saturday and charged in a Singapore court over comments he made on his blog and in an e-mail that were critical of the judge presiding over a defamation case. The lawyer, Gopalan Nair, is a native of Singapore and formerly practiced there, but now has an immigration-law firm in Fremont, Calif. He was in Singapore to attend a three-day hearing presided over by Supreme Court Justice Belinda Ang. While there, Nair criticized Ang in a post on his blog, “Singapore Dissident”, calling her “biased” and writing that she “prostituted herself during the entire proceedings,” and then he repeated the criticism in an e-mail he sent to news media and Singapore’s attorney general.
