According to the Legal Blog Watch: “The Florida Bar Examiners are considering forcing some wannabe lawyers to be subjected to a thorough social networking investigation prior to their being knighted esquires. Florida bar examiners will look for evidence of substance abuse in applicants with a history of those problems, and will of course check to see if you would like to overthrow the government.” You can read more here.
Facebook friends and ethics

From the Legal Blog Watch: A North Carolina judge decided to friend an attorney that was before him in a contested child custody matter. After appearing in court one day, the lawyer decided to post a comment on his Facebook account regarding the case. The judge responded.
The judge was reprimanded by NC’s Judicial Standards Commission. You can read more about this matter here.

From the Legal Blog Watch: According to a recent study done at the Ohio State University, “Facebook users in the study had GPAs between 3.0 and 3.5, while non-users had GPAs between 3.5 and 4.0. The study authors aren’t ready to say that using Facebook necessarily leads to less studying and hence, lower grades, just that there is a relationship between the two.”

According to the Law Librarian Blog, Australia’s Supreme Court “allowed lawyers to serve defendants with a default judgement via Facebook, after being satisfied that the profiles the lawyers had found did in fact belong to the defendants in question.”

From the National Law Journal: “Jury consultants and trial lawyers typically compose jury questionnaires for jurors to answer during voir dire, if approved by judges. Some of the questionnaires are basic — employment, marital status, age, criminal record. But some are dozens of pages long and highly detailed.
Still, consultants and lawyers have found that jurors don’t always answer the questions honestly. So they have, in recent years, begun hiring private investigators and conducting their own research on jurors.
