Charles Curtis

According to a USA Today article, Charles Curtis preceded Barack Obama as the first person of color to be on the presidential ticket.  Charles Curtis was a member of the Kaw Indian tribe.  In 1928, Curtis appeared on the presidential ticket against Herbert Hoover.  He thereafter became Hoover’s vice-presidential running mate.  Read here to learn more about Charles Curtis
